On our second day in Paris, I went back to Notre Dame in the morning. Lines were short, and I went on the Tower Tour. It started out really nice, but here’s what eventually happens on The Tower Tour of Notre Dame… you can go in, but you’ll never get out (due to stairways and walkways that only accompany a single file line.) Stand in a sardine pack with many other English speakers from around the world, gazing down at the city you wish you were free to roam in. I did see some great gargoyles that aren’t visible from the ground, but when the tour reached a moment where one can decide to go up another level or escape to freedom, I escaped…along with a pair of Brits who laughed and said “ENUFFA DAT, RIAGHT?” For sure.
